Three or four people sustained minor injuries in a fire in a residential building on Mason Street Tuesday evening, according to Greenwich Emergency Medical Services.

More than a dozen police, fire and GEMS vehicles responded to the 169 Mason St. building after a resident with singed clothing ran to report the fire at the nearby Greenwich Public Safety Complex, located less than half a block away at 11 Bruce Place, around 7:30 p.m., according to First Selectman Peter Tesei.

The Red Cross and backup units from the Stamford Fire Department also responded to the scene.

The source of the fire was on the first floor, with smoke spreading to fourth floor, Tesei said.

Those who were injured were transported to the hospital.

Residents were evacuated from the building, and it was unclear when they would be allowed to return.

A warming center is available for residents' use at the public safety complex, according to fire officials.
